Jimmie Lee Hastie Obituary
Jimmie Lee Hastie

AGE: 79 • Raleigh, NC

Jimmie Lee Hastie, age 79, passed away peacefully with family members by her side on Sunday, November 19, 2017 in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Jimmie was born Jimmie Lee Johnson on September 4, 1938 in Madison, FL. She was the second oldest of seven children by the union of Jimmy and Maude Johnson. Jimmie was raised in Miami, FL and, upon graduating from high school, she attended and graduated from Hampton Institute in 1960 with a degree in Accounting. While at Hampton, she joined the Delta Sigma Theta sorority.

After graduation, she worked for the Department of Defense in Dayton, OH. It was while in Dayton that she met and married her husband, Alexander Hastie. Their marriage produced her twin sons, Gerald Frank and Jeffrey Alexander. The family moved to New Jersey in 1965 where she worked at Fort Monmouth as a procurement analyst.

In 1966, the couple moved to Freehold, New Jersey where they stayed and raised their twin sons. During that time, she attended Farleigh Dickerson University and received a Master of Business Administration while receiving several promotions. After leaving the Department of Defense, she worked for Northrop and the US Post Office before retiring and moving to Raleigh for her final years.

Jimmie was a strong, independent, and bold woman. She fought passionately for her legal rights and in defense of her children. She was always known to speak her mind no matter the consequences. In her later years, she became more involved with politics including donating to several organizations. Her quick wit and sharp mind served her well in both her personal and professional life. Mickey, as she was known by her family, will be remembered as a kind and generous person. Her voice and spirit will be missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, Jimmie was preceded in death by her husband Alexander, and her brother Joe. She is survived by her sons, Gerald and Jeffrey, four grandchildren, Jordan, Tyler, Noah and Ruby and her siblings, Thelma Johnson, Jessie Johnson, Martha Ann Johnson, Geraldine Johnson, and Vickie Corneal. Additionally she is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.

There will be a memorial service on December 3, 2017 at the Childs Funeral Home in Red Bank, NJ beginning at 12 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates a donation to Jimmie's favorite charity, Planned Parenthood.
