AGE: 85 • Lanoka Harbor

Joan A. Dreher, age 85, of Irvington, Brick, Toms River, and Lanoka Harbor, passed away surrounded by her loving family, on May 29, 2017, at the Tallwoods Care Center.

Joan was born and raised to the late Daniel and Frieda Halberts and graduated from Irvington High School.

Joan was an accomplished dancer and after graduation taught dance at a local dance studio. Joan married her high school sweetheart, Thomas J Dreher Sr., who predeceased her in 2005. They shared a loving and devoted marriage for over 55 years. Joan loved reading, camping, the Jersey shore and her grandchildren. While raising her family of five children, Joan returned to school attending Ocean County College and attained her nursing degree as a RN. She was employed at Community Memorial Hospital, Toms River in the maternity ward until her retirement. Joan assisted in the delivery of numerous babies in Ocean County and also most of her grandchildren.

Joan is predeceased by her sisters Dorothy Kuebler, and Eleanor Halberts.

Joan is survived by her sister Evelyn Van Blarcum, Warren, N.J. and her children Thomas and Janet Dreher Jr., Forked River, Steven and Deborah Dreher, Bayville, N.J., Keith and Cindy Dreher, Lanoka Harbor, NJ., Daniel and Bernadette Dreher, Manahawkin, N.J., and Mary Ellen and Joseph Fernandez, Lanoka Harbor, N.J., 12 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services at Layton's Home For Funerals, 250 Lacey Rd., Forked River, N.J. on Thursday, June 1 from 2 to 4 pm 7 to 9 pm. A mass, in celebration of her life, will take place at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 300 Lacey Rd., Forked River, N.J. on Friday June 2 at 9:30 AM and interment will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Toms River, N.J.
