AGE: 93 • Seaside Heights

John A. Mc Devitt, 93: born in Philadelphia on June 16, 1923, the youngest of eight children. John was a beloved husband, father and grandfather who proudly served his country overseas in the 9th Air Force during World War II. John passed away on March 26, 2017 in Brick hospital. He was a graduate of Toms River High School and a long time resident of Seaside Heights. He worked in his family-owned hardware business in Seaside Heights until 1970. John then worked for Sears Roebuck as catalogue manager until retirement. Post- retirement John delivered parts for Gateway Toyota until 2010.

John enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942 at the age of 19. As P-47 fighter pilot, John flew 87 missions over northern France and Germany in 1944. After the war, he joined the Air Force Reserves and was stationed at Dover, Delaware and Willow Grove, PA. He achieved rank of Lt. Colonel and retired from the Air Force Reserves in 1971.

Beginning in 1968, John served as the director of operations for the New Jersey wing of the Civil Air Patrol operating out of Miller Airpark in Berkeley Township, NJ. He has been a long-time member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. In his later years, he was also a member of the Toms River Elks and Lavallette Yacht Club.

Predeceased by his wife Muriel Mc Devitt and son, Sean Mc Devitt.

3 brothers: James Mc Devitt, Joseph Mc Devitt, Hugh Mc Devitt and by his 4 sisters: Margaret Mc Devitt, Elizabeth Mc Devitt, Irene Mc Devitt, and Cecilia Mc Devitt

John is survived by his daughter, Colleen Boueil, Berkeley Township and granddaughter, Laurence Krupinski, Lacey Township.

Memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, April 1st from 3-7 pm with a service at 6:30 pm at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 26 Mule Road, Toms River.
