Toms River - Dr. John Anthony Pino, 70, of Toms River, New Jersey, passed away peacefully after a long battle with cancer on December 1st, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. John was born in Hammonton on November 28th, 1947 to Joseph and the late Grace Pino. John graduated Hammonton High School in 1965 and Rutgers University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1969. He attended the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine 1973. In 1974, he moved his family to Toms River to begin his long career as a family physician.

Throughout his career as a family practitioner, Dr. Pino spent time training young doctors and nurse practitioners within his practice, many of whom are his peers today. Dr. Pino also was an Assistant Professor at Rowan School of Osteopathic Medicine in New Jersey and The New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. He was also a Graduate Nursing Preceptor for Monmouth University.

Along with his training, Dr. Pino was very active in the community as well. Dr. Pino used to lecture on many clinical topics, including Alzheimer's Dementia, pharmacological agents for smoking cessation, hyperlipidemia, adult asthma, and herpes zoster. He was active with the Boy Scouts of America, helping the young scouts with their yearly physical exams. He was one of the original 4 physician practices to attain the Patient Center Medical Home from the NCQA. He was actively involved in the transformation of medical practices. He participated with the Comprehensive Primary Care for since 2011. For these, and many other outstanding efforts in his practice, he has received numerous awards, including the. PressGaney Guardian of Excellence in 2016 and 2017 and the Community Medical Center Physician of Distinction Award in 2015.

But his greatest source of pride was always his family. John leaves behind his loving wife, Donna (Caruso) of 47 years. He is survived by his father Joseph Pino, Hammonton, NJ, and his brothers Joseph Pino Jr., Folsom, NJ, and Ben Pino, Deptford, NJ. John also leaves behind his children, Dr. Joseph and Natalie Pino, Wilmington, NC, Michael and Melissa Pino, Pensacola, FL, and David and Hitomi Pino, Los Angeles, CA. Dr. Pino was known as "Grampy" to the lights of his life, his grandchildren, Alexandra, Richard John, Louie and Ella Pino. Viewing will be held at Silverton Memorial Funeral Home, 2482 Church Rd., Toms River Friday, Dec 8, from 4-8. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 685 Hooper Avenue, Toms River, at 11:00 am, Saturday, December 9th, 2017.
