John C Bartlett, Sr.

AGE: 97 • Pine Beach

John "Doc" Bartlett, Sr., 97, of Pine Beach died peacefully on January 26, 2017. He was born in Versailles, Kentucky on March 28, 1919. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1942 proudly serving his country as an Aviation Chief Electronic Technicians Mate searching for enemy submarines overseas with Airship Squadron 51, Blimp Hedron 5. His final station was Lakehurst, NJ where he received an honorable discharge in 1946. He and his wife Helen settled in Pine Beach in 1947. He owned and operated Bartlett & Brown Television Service on Atlantic City Blvd. in Pine Beach from 1949 until his retirement in 1981. Doc was very active in the community. He served as president of the board of trustees then as a board member with the Pine Beach Chapel. He served on the Pine Beach Volunteer Fire Department and was instrumental in the fundraising efforts to build the hall. He served as a Pine Beach Councilman driving the effort to join Pine Beach into the Toms River School System with the property allocation and eventual building of the Pine Beach Elementary School. He was also a member of the Pine Beach Men's Club and was honored in 2002 as Grand Marshall of the Fourth of July parade for the town in which he worked, lived and loved. Always with a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye, he was loved by many and will be dearly missed. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Helen in 2009.

Surviving are his three children; Freeholder John C. Bartlett, Jr. and his wife Peggy, Van S Bartlett and Nancy Keczkemethy and her husband Andrew; seven grandchildren, John C. III, Meg, Billy, Rachael, Zachery, Emma and Graham; six great grandchildren, John C. IV, Julia, Elias, Katherine, Christopher and Kylie.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a Memorial Service at the Pine Beach Chapel, 501 Hillside Ave, Pine Beach, 08741 on Saturday February 4 at 11:30am. Mastapeter Funeral Home, Bayville is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations made in "Doc's" memory to the Beachwood First Aid Squad or the Pine Beach Chapel would be greatly appreciated.
