Toms River - John J. Lopez, II, 96, of Toms River died December 10, 2017. Born in Spain, he came to the United States in 1927. He resided in Patuxent Maryland and Jacksonville, Florida before moving to Toms River in 1954. John received his Bachelor's degree from Trenton State College in 1966. John proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1941-1960. He fought in WWII in the Pacific flying in PBY's as well in ground combat. He served as a chief of ordinance. He also flew in the blimps stationed at Lakehurst NAS. After his retirement from the U.S. Navy, he was an Industrial Arts Teacher at Trenton Central High School and Point Pleasant Borough High School before retiring in 1984. John was a founding member of the Conservation Club at Lakehurst Naval Base. John was predeceased by his wife, Louise in 2005. John is survived by 2 sons, John J. Lopez, III, of Bloomfield, Indiana and Dr. Richard Lopez, DMD of Toms River, his daughter, Bonnie Lou Collett of Medford, his brother, Manuel Lopez of Cranford, his sister, Diamond Garcia of Andover and 5 grandchildren. John will be interred in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia. Arrangements by DeGraff Lakehurst Funeral Home, Lakehurst.
