Navesink - John L. Butler, 85, of Navesink passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2018. He was born in Boston on January 22, 1933 and was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Catherine Butler, and his brothers Paul and Leonard. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jean.

After serving in the Army Signal Corps until 1959, John worked in electronics for the Bendix Corporation in Eatontown. He then founded Butler Landscaping, now in its 55th year of business. After turning over the day-to-day operations to his eldest son, Mark, he remained active as a consultant for the business for many years.

A long-time communicant of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Atlantic Highlands, he was a member of both St. Agnes and Atlantic Highlands Seniors. He was an avid tennis and chess player and also prided himself on his skill at Indian Wrestling.

Other surviving family members include his eight children and their spouses: Mark and his wife Lisa, Matthew and his wife Andie, Annmarie Horan and her husband Joseph, Catherine Ziemba and her husband Mark, John Paul and his wife Barbara, Jeanne Corey and her husband Vincent, Eileen Bolognese and her husband Paul, and Rosemarie Gana and her husband Jorge. He is also survived by thirteen granddaughters and seven grandsons, as well as his nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

A memorial service is planned for Wednesday, April 18th from 4 - 7 pm at Posten's Funeral Home, 79 E. Lincoln Ave., and a funeral mass will be held at 10 am at St. Agnes, 103 Center Ave in Atlantic Highlands.
