John M. Kolmansberger Obituary
John M. Kolmansberger

AGE: 74 • Toms River

John "Jack" Kolmansberger, Sr., 74, passed away at his Toms River home on July 10, 2017. Jack was known by many names throughout his life: husband, dad, Pa, Mr. K, K Man, Coach K, Miracle Man, and probably a dozen more (some which are certainly not appropriate for print).

Born in Pittston, PA. Jack learned how to fight for what is right at an early age. Later in life, Jack heroically battled several life-threatening illnesses without complaint.

According to Jack, "every day is a good day." This philosophy coupled with his sharp sense of humor made Jack a master of public relations and an inspiration to thousands. He was a French teacher in the Toms River schools for over 35 years. He also ran countless programs for children through the township department of recreation, where he founded Camp Discovery, a summer camp for Developed Mentally Disabled children.

Jack loved sports. His 1955 Pittston Little League team played in the World Series in Williamsport. He loved fishing and his Philadelphia Flyers. And, he cherished his years of coaching baseball, basketball, and softball.

Above all, Jack loved his family. He was predeceased by his twin sister, Janet, and his younger brother, Bobby. He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Barbara. Jack always credited his life to Barbara's care. He said she is "simply the best." Also surviving are his son, Jack and his wife Cassie; his daughter Colleen and her husband Rob; his daughter, Erin and her husband Fernando, his grandchildren, Bryn, Claire, Hailey, Tyler, Lucca, and Marco; his sisters, Dorothy, Peggy, Janie, and Joanie; and his brother, Jimmy.

Viewing will be 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 on Friday, July 14 at Kedz Funeral Home, 1123 Hooper Ave., Toms River. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 am on Saturday, July 15 at St. Justin's R.C. Church, 975 Fischer Blvd., Toms River. The mass will be followed by a Celebration of Life at Colleen and Rob's house.

Pa was as genuine as they come. His family hopes that his life will inspire everyone to do something good for others. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Jack's memory to Ethan's Hope for Humanity. This program helps every child feel special though music.
