JOHN R. DECKER, 84, of Jackson Twp., NJ, passed away peacefully into heaven on November 23, 2016. John was born in Binghamton, NY, and grew up in Hallstead, PA, before joining the United States Air Force in 1949. He served his country from 1949 - 1953 and was a Korean War veteran. Prior to completing his service, he married his childhood sweetheart, Patricia J. Gallagher, and they lived in Texas, New York, Pennsylvania and finally settling in South River, NJ, in 1960. The family then moved to Jackson, NJ, in 1963 where they lived for the past 53 years and raised their seven children. John worked for IBM for 32 years retiring in 1991. He was an avid outdoorsman having enjoyed hunting and fishing his entire life and is a "Lifetime Member" of the Turkey Swamp Rod & Gun Club in Freehold, NJ. He was also an attendant of the First Baptist Church of Southard in Howell, NJ.

He was predeceased by his loving wife of 63 years, Patricia Decker earlier this year as well as his parents, William and Lena (Smith) Decker; brothers, William and Charles; and sisters, Lois Decker and Barbara Caswell. John is survived by his brothers, Curtis and his wife, Patricia of Cary, NC, James and his wife, Mary Lou of Hallstead, PA; his sister, Lorna Howe and her husband, Myron of Nicholasville, KY; along with his sister-in-law, Mary Helen of Great Bend, PA; and brother-in-law, James Caswell of Odenville, AL; his loving daughters, Karen Goff and her husband, Ronald of Whiting, Lori Agostinacchio of Jackson, Nanci Johnson and her husband, Adam of Hallstead, PA, and Susan Glovich and her husband, Tom of Windsor, NY; his loving sons, Robert Decker of Whiting, Jeffrey Decker and his wife, Hulda of Owego, NY, and John P. Decker and his wife, Melanie of Jackson. He will also be deeply missed by his twelve grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his visitation on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, from 4-8 PM at The GEORGE S. HASSLER FUNERAL HOME, 980 Bennetts Mills Rd., Jackson Twp., NJ 08527. A funeral gathering will be offered on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, at 9:30 AM at the funeral home. His Funeral Ceremony will follow at 10:00 AM at the funeral home with the Rev. William Gaul officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Province Line Rd., Arneytown, NJ.
