John W. DeWitt, Jr.

Manahawkin - John, 92, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on February, 14, 2018.

John was born, February 5, 1926 in Orange, NJ to John W. DeWitt, Sr. and Sarah Bell (Silver) DeWitt, and grew up in Verona, NJ. He joined the U.S. Navy, serving as a radio operator on the U.S.S. Natoma Bay, CVE62 during WWII in the South Pacific. For 38 years he worked for Bell Laboratories as a Technician and Programmer in Holmdel, NJ; Naperville, IL; and Whippany, NJ. After retirement he also worked part time at Singer Kearfott in Wayne, NJ.

He leaves his wife of 58 years, Dolores (Chioccarello) DeWitt; his son, Douglas DeWitt, and his daughters, Lucinda DeWitt, of Whiting, NJ. Nancy Bruno and husband, Robert of Barnegat, NJ, and Janet DeWitt-Goodman and husband Mark Goodman, of Bartlett, IL; brother-in-law, Richard M. Dailey; grandchildren, Jason DeWitt, Matthew Bruno, Sean Gabriel Goodman (wife Shabana), Benjamin Josiah Goodman, and Sara Gretchen Goodman; and several nieces and nephews.

John chose to donate his body to the Anatomical Association at Rutgers/Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
