John Wolt, passed away on Friday, March 31, 2017 in Freehold, NJ, where he resided for the past 44 years.

Born in Zilina, Czechoslovakia in 1928, he was forced to flee his native country with his family ten days before the outbreak of World War II. They settled in England where members of the Czechoslovak government established a government-in-exile. He spent his teenage years in a small town in Wales, where he attended a government-founded school for the refugee children. After the war, he moved to Prague where he enrolled at the Charles University Medical School , but in 1948 , the Communists seized power in Czechoslovakia, and he and his mother emigrated to the United States that same year. Once here, he received a full scholarship and obtained a degree in Chemistry. He went on to teach at the University of Michigan, and later accepted a position as a chemist at IFF, where he worked in a senior position for 40 years.

John Wolt was a member of Temple Shaari Emeth in Manalapan. NJ.

Respected, much loved, and missed by all who knew him, John Wolt is survived by his wife, Judith Grossman Wolt, two sons, Ethan Wolt and Daniel Wolt, and Dan's wife, Dr. Cindy Wolt, as well as five grandchildren, Adam, Eden, Ariela, Talya and Yosef.
