Jose "Tony" A. Yanis

AGE: 72 • Jackson

Jose "Tony" A. Yanis, 72, of Jackson, NJ, passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2016, at home surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, he lived in New York before moving to Jackson, NJ.

Tony was a New York City Police Officer for 16 years, beginning his career at the 23rd Precinct and retiring from the 72nd Precinct .

He was a US Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam era.

Tony was an active parishioner of St. Monica's RC Church, Jackson, NJ.

He was a friend of Bill W and was one of the founders of the H.O.M.E.R group.

Tony was a loving Father, a doting Grandfather and an animal lover.

Tony was predeceased by his parents, Jose & Petra Yanis, and his siblings Jose Miguel, Hermis & Edin Yanis and Maria Ducos. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Gloria (nee Fernandez), his three children Ricardo Yanis of Brooklyn, NY, Julie Yanis & her husband John Bohichik of Jackson, NJ and Joseph Yanis of Brooklyn, NY, his siblings Edelwardo Yanis and his wife Elba of Bronx, NY, Heriberto Yanis of New York, NY, Roberto Yanis & his wife Flor of New York, NY, Elba Iris Barreto & her husband Perfecto of New York, NY, and Hilda Barreto of New York, NY, and two grandchildren Nina & Katia Bohichik.

The family will receive friends Monday 2-4 & 7-9pm at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals DeBow Chapel, 150 West Veterans Hwy, Jackson, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Tuesday 11:00am at St. Monica's RC Church, Jackson, NJ. Committal will be private.
