Belmar - Joseph A Matava, 77, of Belmar, passed away on February 6 at Preferred Care in Wall Twp. Joseph worked as an electrical engineer for the United States Army at Fort Monmouth in Eatontown for over 40 years. He was an avid gardener and was famous for his tomatoes and peppers. Joseph was a model radio control airplane enthusiast who built his own planes and was a member of the RCC of Wall Twp. He was a parishioner of the Church of Saint Rose in Belmar and was a proud Army Veteran.

Joseph was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Helen Matava. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Bette Matava; his daughter, AnnMarie, and her husband, Victor Brown, of Brooklyn NY; his son, Joseph, and his wife, Lynn, of Hebron, MD; his siblings: Mike Matava and his wife, Sylvia, Carol Maynard and her husband, Larry, Judy Powell and her husband, Max, Kathy Kuzma and her husband, Mike; and his grandchildren: Victor and Nate Matava-Brown and Maya and Annabel Matava.

Visitation will be Sunday, February 11, from 2-4 and 7-9PM at the Reilly Bonner Funeral Home, 801 D Street, Belmar NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10:30AM at the Church of Saint Rose, Belmar NJ. Committal to follow at Saint Anne's Cemetery, Wall Twp.
