AGE: 81 • West Long Branch

Joseph J. "Buddy" Cieri, age 81 of West Long Branch, died Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at home. Joe was born in Jersey City. He graduated from Red Bank Catholic High School (class of 1953), received his BA at Saint Peter's College in Jersey City in 1957, and his MBA at Monmouth College (now Monmouth University), West Long Branch. He was a supervisor and teacher for the Business Education Department for Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School Board of Education for 25 years, retiring in 1994. He was also the Board Secretary and School of Business Administrator for Rumson Fair-Haven Regional High School and Director of Admissions at Monmouth Park Race Track.

Active in the West Long Branch community, he was a member of the West Long Branch Sports Association, a member of the West Long Branch Recreation Commission, member and former president of the Shore Regional High School Board of Education, a member of the West Long Branch Borough Council, and a 50-year volunteer and life member for the West Long Branch Fire Co. #2. He was also a member of the NJ National Guard, the Long Branch Knights of Columbus #335 and the Long Branch Old Guard.

He was predeceased by his son, Brian Cieri and his parents, Angelo and Frances Cieri. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Phyllis (Scheri) Cieri; two sons, Kevin Cieri, his wife Pauline, their children, Anne Marie and Christian of Long Branch; Joseph Cieri, Jr. and his fiancé Kelly Brew of West Long Branch; his daughter-in-law, Meredith Cieri of Rome, GA; his brother, George Cieri and Mary Windler; and his devoted friend, Ben Trigani and his wife Patricia.

He is also survived by his uncle, Joseph Chiarella of Coral Springs, FL; his aunts, Claire Jeffers of Oakhurst, and Ann Lefurge of Eatontown; his sister-in-law, Connie Hoke of Eatontown; his nephew, Vern Hoke, his children, Daniel and Angelina; and three nieces, Lynn Dolly, her husband Kevin, their children, Erin and Shannon; Jennifer Donnelly, her husband Michael, their children, Sean, Brian, Anna and Aaron and Katherine Di Donato, her husband Mike and their son, Leo.

Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2 - 6 pm at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Ave. (corner of Third Ave.) in Long Branch. Funeral, Monday; 9 am from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 am at St. Jerome Church in West Long Branch. Interment will follow at Mt.
