Joseph F. Russo 91 of Deal, passed away peacefully at home with his loved ones by his side on Thursday, Dec 22.

Born and raised in Asbury Park, Joe attended Mt. Carmel Grammar School and graduated from Asbury Park High School. Joe proudly served his country in the US Navy on the USS Ticonderoga.

Upon completing his military service, he returned home to serve his home town community as a Asbury Park Fire Fighter. He later opened Mattison Jewelers in Asbury specializing in fine watch repair. As customers turned to mall shopping rather than downtown areas, he opened and successfully ran one of the shores busiest car washes located in Neptune City. After a brief retirement he took a position at Monmouth Park Race Track, working there for over 25 years.

Joe's first love was his family. He enjoyed nothing more than taking the little ones to the beach and boardwalk, playing games and going on rides. He was a true Yankee fan, enjoyed gold and gardening. He and his wife loved also shared a love for world traveling and spending winters in Hollywood Fla.

Joe is predeceased by his parents John and Philomena Russo, a brother Anthony Russo and sisters Anna Martone and Celia Sestito Joe is survived by his adoring wife Maryann, his brother retired NJ State Senator John F. Russo and his wife Maryann. Sisters Theresa Freda and her husband Fred, and Carol Marzarella and her husband Ray. Joe also leaves behind four beloved step-children, six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a host of adored nieces and nephews.

Visiting will be on Tuesday Dec 27 from 2-4 and 6-8 at the Johnson-McGinley Funeral Home, 2652 NJ I 38, Wall, NJ. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday Dec. 28 at Mt Carmel Church at 11 am. Internment to follow Hamilton Cemetery, Neptune. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to St Jude Children's Research Hospital.
