AGE: 91 • Whiting

Joseph M. Otero, age 91, died Sunday, Dec. 18 at Bey Lea Village Nursing Home, Toms River. Born in Newark, he lived in Seaside Park prior to moving to Whiting.

He served with the US Marine Corp for 50 years, during both World War II and Korea.

Joseph was the owner of the Ocean Breeze Hotel, Seaside Heights. He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton RC Church, Whiting.

He was extremely active in his community and belonged to a host of organizations, including, the Knights of Columbus, VFW, American Legion of Seaside, Fleet Reserve of Lakehurst, Ortley Beach First Aid, Triboro First Aid, Toms River Elks of Florham Park, Marine Corp League, Devil Dogs, Berkely Stripers, Holy Name Society and the Moose Lodge of Ortley. He was also a deacon with St. Francis of Assisi in Seaside Park, an EMT Instructor and most notably was the oldest living Boy Scout in Ocean County, an organization for which he served as chairman in both Ocean and Atlantic Counties.

Joseph is survived by his sister, Marie Rozsics and his Godson, Rocco Policastro.

Visitation will be Wednesday 2-5 PM and Thursday 9:30 to 10:30 AM at Carmona-Bolen Home For Funerals 66 Lacey Rd. Lacey Rd. Whiting, NJ 08759. Mass will be Thursday 10:45 AM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton R.C. Church in Whiting, followed by the entombment at Whiting Memorial Park in Whiting. Condolences can be sent to:
