Joseph Patrick DeMarinis Obituary
Joseph Patrick De Marinis

Joseph DeMarinis left this world on June 5, 2017 with his loving wife, Alma at his side. Joe led an extraordinary and full life. He had a brilliant mind and loved classical music, opera, art and literature. Joe was an avid artist whose originals included murals and oil paintings. He enjoyed gourmet cooking and wrote several poems and books.

Joe enlisted in the Army Air Corp in WWII at age 19. He served with distinction in the Pacific, earning several battle stars and medals, and remained very patriotic throughout his life.

After the war, Joe married Alma and together they enjoyed 70 great years of marriage. He was employed by the NY/NJ Port Authority working his way up to Risk Manager for all Port Authority facilities. Well respected in the industry, he was recognized by Business Insurance Magazine, listed in Who's Who in Risk Management and had a Conference Center named for him in the World Trade Center.

Joe earned a degree from Rutgers and served on the Long Branch Planning Board. He "retired" at 55, enjoyed summers in NJ and winters in Florida, embarking on many entrepreneurial pursuits. He loved horseracing and owned several race horses, including one aptly named "It's a Great Life." Joe was a self made man and the odds of him accomplishing so much in his 94 years were a million to one but Joe was that one in a million. And he was, most of all, a family man who was idolized by his children and adored by his grandchildren, always generous and supportive of all their endeavors.

Joe was pre-deceased by his mother, Josephine Stanzione, his father Charles and his daughter, Adriana. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Alma; his brother, Gus; his children: Joseph Jr., Daria, Charles & wife Amy, Victoria (Vikki) Miragliotta & husband Don; grandchildren: Jared & wife Xan, Alexandra, Patrick and Breanna DeMarinis, Jeff & wife Carla and Andrew Miragliotta; 2 great grandchildren, Aidyn and Zoe; special cousins, Nyra & Jim.

Joe's life will be celebrated at a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Michael's, Long Branch on Sat., July 1, at 11 AM. Friends will be received in church at 10:15 AM. He will be laid to rest at Brig. Gen. Doyle Cemetery on 7/3. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a Veterans .
