Joseph R. Ruggiero, 93, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 in Glen Allen, Virginia. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and uncle. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Susan P. Ruggiero of Glen Allen, Va.; his daughter, Sylvia M. Sradomski of Glen Allen, Va.; his son Joseph G. Ruggiero (Linda) of Naples, Fla.; his three grandchildren, Ann Marie Griffith (Lawrence) of Glen Allen, Va.; Susan Alston (Jeffrey) of East Hampton, Ct.; and Thomas M. He was a proud veteran of World War II, serving his country from 1942-46 as a Navy gunner on tankers in the South Pacific. For more than 45 years he was a welder for Pennsylvania Railroad in Kearney, New Jersey. He loved his family, wine and everything his wife Susie cooked for him. He was a master storyteller. He could fix anything and was never afraid to get his hands dirty. He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Sebastiana Ruggiero; his brothers Charles and Louis Ruggiero; and his sisters Antoinette Ruggiero, Carmela Vernotico, Vera Verona, Maria Brunetti, and Susie Marino. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10am on Monday at the Church of the Ascension, 501 Brinley Ave, Bradley Beach, followed by entombment at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Neptune. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Deborah Hospital Foundation. The Ocean Grove Memorial Home in in charge of arrangements.
