AGE: 97 • Spring Lake

Josephine E. Sisti (Jo), 97, of Spring Lake, died on May 13, 2017, at her home.

Jo was born in Jersey City to Anthony J. and Elvira (Commorato) Sisti. She was a summer resident in Spring Lake with her family since 1935, and retired there in 1975. Jo graduated from Notre Dame College in Staten Island and earned a Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology from Fordham University. She also took courses at Fordham School of Social Service.

She was a Psychologist at Hudson County Hospital for Mental Disease. She also worked with Selective Service Appeal Board during WWII. Jo was a School Social Worker with the Jersey City Board of Education Bureau of Special Service. For thirty years she was assigned to the Youth Bureau of the Jersey City Police Department to counsel juvenile and adolescent girls.

Her whole life was her Roman Catholic faith, her country, her family and friends, and all animals. She was a parishioner at St. Catharine's Church.

In addition to her parents, Jo was predeceased by her brother, Anthony J. Sisti. She is survived by her sister, Elvira Winters, and her nieces and nephews, Jeanette Oliver, Andy Sisti, Paul Winters, John Sisti, Mary Winters, Elizabeth Winters, Rosemarie Turner and Mary Jo Lutick. She also leaves many grand-nieces and nephews, and great-grand nieces and nephews..

Visitation will take place at O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35, Wall, on Tuesday, May 16, 2017, from 9-10AM. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Catharine's Church, Spring Lake, at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, followed by entombment in the family mausoleum at Calvary Cemetery, Queens.
