AGE: 100 • South Toms River

Josephine Anna Vas, 100, of South Toms River, died Friday, June 23, 2017, in Westfield, NJ. She was born in Hopelawn, NJ and lived in Matawan/Aberdeen before moving to South Toms River in 1988. Josephine Vas was the owner of the Stardust Bar on Route 34 in Aberdeen for many years. She was a member of the New Jersey Licensed Beverage Association. Prior to this she was a member of the International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union, AFL-CIO and worked sewing dresses.

Mrs. Vas was predeceased by her parents Michael Malinowski and Anna Suppes Malinowski, her husband, Alexander Andrew Vas, her son Alexander Andrew Vas Jr, her daughter, Anne Marie Mohrbutter, her brothers Joseph Miller and John Malinowski and sister Jessie Hoffman. She is survived by her daughter Joan Josephine Vas of Matawan, grandsons Richard W. Mohrbutter Jr, Jessie Alexander Vas, Jason Vas, granddaughter Danielle Jo Vas and great granddaughter Samantha Rose Guyader.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Friday, June 30, 2017, from 2-4 and 6-9 at the Waitt Funeral Home, 501 Route 79, Morganville. A mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday morning, July 1, 2017 at St. Cement's Church, Route 79, Matawan at 10am. Internment will follow at St. Stephen's Cemetery, Keasbey.
