Joy Curzon Jarnagin Obituary
Joy Curzon Jarnagin

AGE: 90 • Sea Bright

Joy Curzon Hoe Jarnagin of Sea Bright NJ, formerly of Monmouth Beach, died peacefully Friday morning at age ninety surrounded by her loving family. Joy was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Faythe Hoe, her brother Captain Edward S. Hoe, and her son William, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Sydney Wright and her son-in-law, Joseph McGowan of Sea Bright, her son, Dr. Richard Jarnagin of Red Bank, her granddaughter, Elizabeth Wright of Florida, her nephew, Frank Jarnagin , her niece, Martha Ireland, her niece and nephew, Denny and Sandy Hoe, and her beloved dog, Zoe.

Joy was very proud of her old New York family. She was the great-great - granddaughter of Robert Hoe, inventor of the steam driven printing press, and the great niece of Richard March Hoe, inventor of the rotary printing press, art collector and founding patron the New York Public Library and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. She was the great-great -granddaughter of the famed immunologist, Dr. Valentine Seaman.

Joy grew up in Westfield NJ, a popular girl with many friends. They would often take the train to New York to listen to Frank Sinatra and others and later have cocktails in the Rainbow Room. In summer she would travel with friends to the Santander Hotel in Asbury Park, the Essex and Sussex in Spring Lake and the Edgewater Hotel on Long Beach Island.

Joy raised her children around the country in Memphis, Milwaukee, and Buffalo before settling in Shrewsbury, N J. All along the way, she made many friends, all struck by her innocence, grace, and beauty, and her love of life. Most of all Joy was blessed with a deep sense of spirituality and selfless love for which she was adored by friends and family.

Special thanks are due to Joy's nurses, hospice caregivers, her hospice companion, Madeline, and most of all to her daughter, Sydney, who provided Joy around the clock care in her final years.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 6, at 10:30 AM at Christ Church, Shrewsbury. In Lieu of flowers, please send contributions to the church.
