Joyce A. Gavan Obituary
Joyce A. Gavan

AGE: 83 • Lakewood

Joyce Alice Anderson, 83, went peacefully in her sleep to rejoin her husband, Michael, on July 20, 2017 at her home in Lakewood. She was born on October 19th, 1933, in Glendale, California, to Lucille Vivian Brady Anderson (Munoz) and John Alvar Anderson. Growing up in Glendale, she attended Holy Family Grade School and High School through her sophomore year, when the family relocated to Lakehurst, New Jersey. She then attended Lakewood High School, where she met and fell in love with Michael T. Gavan. After graduating from Lakewood in 1951 she attended nursing school in Trenton, and married Michael in October 26, 1952. They were blessed with four children, Annmarie, Michael T. Jr. (Tom), Kevin and Brendan. She was an active member of Saint Mary's Academy Mothers Club and later in life became a Eucharistic Minister. She was an adventurous soul who loved to travel, especially with her husband -- her children still fondly remember a certain cross country road trip she took them on all by herself. She had a loyal, caring nature and was always there for anyone in need. She was most proud of her eight grandchildren, Jennifer, Kevin, Kieran, Michael, Tara, Shea, Brady and Liam who she loved unconditionally. A devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, and the best big sister anyone could ask for, Joyce's heart was as large as her family, and her generous spirit will live on in each of us. Joyce is predeceased by her husband, Michael, their daughter, Annmarie, and her siblings, John Alvar (Jack) Anderson, Gerald Jerome (Jerry) Anderson Mary Claire (Munoz) Bagayas, and Merrill Patrick Munoz. Joyce is survived by her children, Michael T. Jr. (Tom), his life partner, Linda and his children, Michael, Tara and Shea; Kevin, his wife Elisabeth and their children, Jennifer, Kevin and Kieran; Brendan, his wife, Laura and their children, Brady and Liam; Her siblings, Janyce Ann Lewis and her husband, Ron; James Anthony (Jim) Munoz and his wife, Jackie; Alice Lucille (Micki) Kaye and her husband, Ruddy; Marguerite (Munoz) Wallington and many, many nieces & nephews. Memorial Gathering will be held on Thursday, July 27, 2017 from 5-9PM at the D'Elia Funeral Home 1300 Vermont Ave. Lakewood, NJ 08701. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, July 28, 2017 at 10:30AM at the St. Mary of the Lake Church, Lakewood. Interment of cremated remains will take place at St. Mary of the Lake Cemetery in Lakewood, NJ. For further information or to post a tribute please visit www.deliafuneralhome.com.
