Judith A. Marquess Obituary
Judith A. Marquess

AGE: 80 •

Judith Ann Leitch Marquess, age 80, of White River Junction VT, died September 24, 2017 at Lebanon Genesis after a long struggle with Alzheimer's dementia. Judith was born February 9, 1937 in Queens Village, NY, the third child of Douglas Leitch and Grace Denton Leitch.

Judith was many things-

A good friend, mother, inspired teacher, free spirit.

She was a founding parent of The New School of Monmouth County -an alternative elementary school in Holmdel NJ that is still nurturing children's natural curiosity today.

She was funny and quirky and enjoyed folk music and gin and tonics and flowers.

She loved NYC and the ocean, and reading murder mysteries and napping on the couch.

She loved Elvis and Pete Seeger and dancing and a good debate with her friends.

She was inspired by children- their creativity, curiosity, open heartedness, and authenticity.

She was inspired by God's love and became an Episcopal Deacon after retiring as a teacher.

She was courageous, fun loving and independent despite struggling with depression much of her life

She created a loving community of good friends around her, wherever she was.

Her life was lived in Queens, Flushing NY, Matawan NJ and White River Junction Vermont.

She is predeceased by her parents Douglas and Grace, siblings Roger and Ruth, and her ex-husband Jerry.

She is survived by her two daughters Jill Marquess, of White River Junction VT, Cynthia Marquess Stadler, son in law Daniel Stadler, grandchildren Henry and Lily Stadler, all of Norwich VT, and many dear friends.

We are grateful to the staff of Valley Terrace, and particularly Mick Byers LPN, for caring for Judith for many years and making her life with dementia the best it could be.

We also thank the staff of Lebanon Genesis and BAYADA Hospice for all their care and support in the last weeks of her life.

Memorial Contributions may be made to: The New School of Monmouth County, 301 Middle Road, Holmdel, NJ 07733.

There will be no calling hours. Family and friends are invited Judith's funeral mass on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 11AM at the St. Paul's Episcopal Church of White River Junction, VT.
