Kenneth John Szyarto Obituary
Kenneth John Szyarto

AGE: 70 • Grand Blanc

Kenneth John Szyarto, of Grand Blanc and Boynton Beach, FL; formerly of Shewsbury and Egg Harbor Twp., NJ, passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2017 after a long illness. Ken was born on February 20, 1947. He graduated from Matawan Reg. High School and Belmont Abbey College. He enjoyed a 40 year career as an athletic director at St. John Vianney High School in Holmdel, New Jersey. Ken was respected amongst his peers and the countless students whose lives he touched. His idol was Vince Lombardi, "The measure of who we are is what we do with what we have." Ken is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Gwen (Harris); his beautiful, caring daughter, Amy of CA; his devoted son, Dr. Christopher Szyarto and his wife Valerie (Nothhelfer); and Poompa's beloved grandchildren: Maddie, Olivia, Lucas, and Max. Ken also leaves behind his family in New Jersey including his mother, Betty; brother and best friend, John, along with his wife Laurie; two nieces, Jaime and Taylor; nephew, Matthew. He is also survived by his sister, Cindy and her family in FL. Ken was preceded in death by his father John in 2009. The family thanks all of the professionals as well at the volunteers for the loving care received from Genesys-Hurley Cancer Institute, Genesee Care Center, and Reverence Hospice. So many angels too numerous to mention by name. In addition to gardening and a love of the beach, Ken's passion was sports, as both an athlete and a spectator. His favorite teams were the New York Yankees, Philadelphia Eagles, Clemson Tigers, South Carolina Gamecocks, and the SJV Lancers. Friends and family are welcome to wear a favorite team jersey/shirt to Ken's visitation on Monday, February 27, 2017 from 4-8pm at Hill Funeral Home, 11723 S. Saginaw St., Grand Blanc. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at 11am at St. Mark's Catholic Church, 7296 Gale Rd., Grand Blanc, with Father Michael W. Kuchar celebrating. Those considering may make a memorial contribution to the Lustgarten Foundation (www.lustgarten.org). Family, close friends and colleagues in New Jersey will gather to celebrate Ken's life at a future date. "The harder you work, the harder it is to surrender." - V. Lombardi
