Toms River

Laura Thompson-Driber of Toms River, NJ, passed away on May 4, 2017, at home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born and raised in Newark, NJ, and came to Toms River in 1960. She was the first Director of Personnel and Public Relations at the new hospital in town, Community Memorial Hospital, a 50-bed hospital that grew to 300 beds during her tenure there. She took a few years off to raise her children. Then she taught Senior English and Advanced Placement English courses at St. Joseph High School, now Donovan Catholic. An Honors graduate of Rutgers University with degrees in both Business Administration and English, she also graduated Seton Hall Law School and earned a law degree. She was a member of both the NJ and Florida Bar Associations. She was certified by the Supreme Court as a Matrimonial Law Attorney and was a Certified Divorce Mediator in addition to having a general practice. She was a member of the Ocean County Early Settlement Panel and a Mediator in the Special Part. She served as an Economic Mediator in Ocean County Family Court. Laura was a member of the Advisory Board of the Ocean County Division of Catholic Charities and a communicant of St. Joseph Church since 1960.

Laura was pre-deceased by her daughter Lynne Brower Servodio. She is survived by her beloved husband Bernard H. Driver; her children: William A. Thompson III and his wife Lori, and Drew D. Thompson and his wife Patricia Kelaher Thompson; her son-in-law Domenick M. Servodio; her two step-daughters: Patricia Nelson and her husband Steve Beddia, and Susan Manion and her husband Thomas Manion; her sisters: Sara Ryan and Maureen Gozdieski; her loving grandchildren; and her nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass to celebrate Laura's life will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, May 18, 2017, at St. Joseph's R.C. Church, 685 Hooper Avenue, Toms River, NJ. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Laura's memory to either Providence House, 383 W. State Street, Trenton, NJ 08618 or Hospice Compassus, 1955 Highway 34 South, Suite 1A, Manasquan, NJ 07719.
