Lawrence C. Harris

AGE: 93 • Point Pleasant

Lawrence C. Harris, died on Thursday, November 9, 2017 in Point Pleasant, at the home of his sister, Ann Harris.

Larry was born on April 1, 1924 during a terrible snowstorm in Wynnewood, PA, the beginning of an eventful life which took him home from Wynnewood, throughout the United States to Europe and including the Ecuadorian jungle and the South Pacific.

As a boy, Larry moved with his family to Winter Park, FL and then to Panama, where his father, the late Captain Percival van Roden Harris, was stationed with the US Navy. Larry graduated from high school in Panama. He was a student at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, when he was drafted and left college to serve with the Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. At the close of the Naval tour, he returned to Philadelphia and graduated from the Wharton School of Business of the University of Pennsylvania.

An enthusiastic devotee of theatre and the arts, Larry worked in New York City in this field and also with WFIL Television in Philadelphia. Always continuing to sustain his theatrical interests, he went into real estate with his partner, the late Gordon Eis. Following a long career in real estate, principally on Long Island, NY, Larry changed direction once again when he opened a restaurant with his friend, Luca Bocchi near Barcelona, Spain. He divided his time between Barcelona and his then home in Sonoma, CA until he came to live with his sister.

Larry was predeceased by his brother, Percival van Roden Harris, Jr. He is survived by his sister, Ann B. Harris of Point Pleasant.

A memorial service, conducted by the Rev. Neil Turton, will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Saint Simon by-the-Sea Church, Mantoloking.
