AGE: 85 • East Keansburg

Leo John Carton, 85 passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2017, peacefully at home.

He lived in East Keansburg with his wife Mary Ann of 59 years.

He graduated from Red Bank Catholic High School in 1951.

Leo served in the National Guard for 10 years in the 644th Armor Division - Medic Detachment in Red Bank as a Sergeant 1st Class. He retired from the NJ Garden State Parkway as Forman after 43 years. He was named President of the Holy Name Society from 1968-1969 at St. Catherine's. He volunteered for the St. Vincent De Paul Society, East Keansburg Fire Department and many of the St. Catherine's Carnivals.

Leo was predeceased by his parents, James T. and Adelaide Carton and his brother Monsignor William J. Carton.

He is survived by his brother James A. Carton (wife Florence), his loving wife Mary Ann Carton (nee Kiene) and eight children Regina, Matthew, William (wife Denise), Edward, Valerie, Diana, Lorraine Gaffigan (husband James) and Steven (wife Dianne) and 7 grandchildren Sean, Steven, Ann Marie, James, Daniel, Gabrielle and Thomas.

Leo had a big heart and a quiet manner. He was a loving husband and a devoted Dad. Family was always first.

Visitation will be on Thursday, May 18, 2017 from 5:00 to 8:00PM at Laurel Funeral Home, 201 Laurel Avenue, West Keansburg, NJ 07734. The funeral mass will be celebrated at Church of Saint Ann, 311 Carr Avenue, Keansburg, NJ 07734 on Friday, May 19, 2017 at 10:15AM.
