LeRoy R. Sturn Obituary
LeRoy R. Sturn

Perth Amboy - On November 5, 2017, LeRoy R. Sturn (Lee, as he was known by his friends) passed peacefully with his family by his side. He was the loving husband for 60 years of Roberta (Bobbie) Wickberg Sturn, father to Kurt Sturn (Dona), Keith Sturn (Lisa) and Kathi Carr (Chip), grandfather to Chase & Bryant Sturn, Sean Sturn, Michael, Christopher & Molly Carr, Jordon & Mitchel Kurtz and brother to Janet Ricci. Lee and Bobbie made Severna Park their home for the past 13 years. Growing up in Perth Amboy, NJ, Lee had a strong love of the water. As a Jr. member (and eventual board member) of Raritan Yacht Club, he raced comets up and down the east coast, eventually jumping into Offshore Racing. Winters would often find him racing in the SORC series on class leaders such as Williwaw and Big Schott. After graduating from Lafayette College with an Industrial engineering degree (BSIE) and lettering in Lacrosse, Lee married his local sweetheart, Roberta Wickberg and worked with a national industrial company in Troy N.Y. After the birth of his first son, Lee was persuaded to move back to Perth Amboy and join the family marine contracting business, E.O. Wickberg & Co., from which he retired. An avid golfer and New York Giants fan, water was his passion. He was a civilian member of the Navy Reserve and one of his greatest thrills in life was landing on an aircraft carrier and transferring between the carrier and a destroyer in a cable car while underway. He loved offshore fishing. Mounts & pictures of the sailfish he caught could be found in his office and home. When not on the water, Lee was an avid landscaper/gardener whose yard was often the envy of the neighborhood. Lee's life will be celebrated in a private family memorial. In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of LeRoy Sturn may be directed to support pediatric oncology at the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center, P.O. Box 17029 Baltimore, MD 21297-1029.
