Lillian V. (Cornish) Green Obituary
Lillian V. Green (née Cornish)

AGE: 95 • Red Bank, NJ

Lillian V. Green (née Cornish), 95, of Red Bank, NJ passed away Monday, October 30 at Riverview Medical Center. Always a woman who lived life independently and on her own terms, she died peacefully on the 75th anniversary of her wedding to her late husband.

Born August 27, 1922 in Cambridge, MD to the late Charles and Margaretta Cornish, Lillian was the second of two daughters. She grew up on the Maryland Eastern Shore and graduated from F.D. St. Clair High School (Cambridge, MD) in 1939. She left the Eastern Shore later that year to attend college in Baltimore, MD at Morgan State University. While at Morgan, she pledged the Alpha Delta chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated in 1942. She graduated from Morgan in 1943 with a degree in Speech Communication, but not before meeting a fellow student who would become the love of her life.

Lawrence "Bubba" Green, an Elementary Education major from Red Bank, NJ, swept her off her feet. The two married October 30, 1942, but Bubba would have to leave his blushing bride in the care of his family in Red Bank after he was deployed to fight in World War II less than two months later. The two were reunited in 1945, and in 1946 they celebrated the birth of their one and only child, Clifford Cornish Green. After the birth of Cliff, Lillian went to work at Fort Monmouth, she as an Engineering Technician. Her life was shattered in 1967 when Bubba died unexpectedly at the age of 49.

Always the model of strength, Lillian settled into life in Monmouth County without Bubba. She was an active member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church where she was a member of the Altar Guild and Episcopal Church Women. In 1978, she was a charter member of Lambda Omega Omega, the Monmouth County chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, where she became a Golden Soror and Lifetime Member. She was also a lifetime member of the Morgan Alumni Association.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Taylor Green; her son, Dr. Clifford Cornish Green; and sister, Julia Geraldine Smith. She is survived by her granddaughter, Lauren L. Green (Raynard Bolling); her great-granddaughter, Campbell N. Bolling; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Meade Green; nieces, Judith M. Newton (Lawrence Kirk), Sandra Anderson (William Jarmon), Almira "Skippy" Bird (Robert), Dr. Valerie Bouleware (Larry), Kathryn Carter, and Janice Gladstone (Bruce); and a host of great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

A celebration of life will take place 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 6 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 26 E. Sunset Ave., Red Bank, NJ 07701. A viewing will take place from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. with the interment to follow at White Ridge Cemetery, 246 Wall St., Eatontown, NJ.
