Dr. Lloyd N.S. Kunar Obituary
Dr. Lloyd N.S. Kunar

Georgetown, Guyana - Dr. Lloyd Kunar was born to Irene and David Kunar in 1941 in Berbice, Guyana, and was the brother of Benjamin, Jean, Edith, Roy and John. He was the devoted father of Leonardo (Caroline), Dario (Stacey), David (Kuyra), Ariel (Nicola), Dimitri (Jennifer), Stefan and Kiran. He was the loving grandfather of 11 and a great-grandfather to three. He is survived by his wife, Fabia.

Lloyd attended secondary school at Queen's College and went on to receive Master's degrees from the University of The West Indies, the University of Toronto, and the Royal School of Mines at Imperial College London, as well as a Ph.D. from the University of Toronto in Geophysics.

He served as Senior Lecturer of Petroleum Engineering at the University of the West Indies, Director of Petrolam and Trintopec in Trinidad and Tobago, and Professor of Physics and Engineering at The University of Guyana, before migrating to New Jersey where he taught science at St. Philip's Academy in Newark, NJ, and AP Physics at Wardlaw-Hartridge School in Edison, NJ.

A lifelong academic ever in search of a new intellectual challenge, Lloyd spent his free time exploring the world of amateur radio and deepening his knowledge of computer science, physics, and mathematics. He will be remembered by all as the life of any party, a consummate entertainer quick to croon a favorite tune, and a man overflowing with love for his family, his students, the sports of cricket and ice hockey, and his home country of Guyana.

Say not in grief 'he is no more' but in thankfulness that he was.

- Hebrew Proverb
