Loretta Daly Obituary
Loretta Daly

Leesburg, VA

Loretta, "Dolly" Daly will be interred with her husband, James, on February 13, 2017 at Arlington National Cemetery. She passed away, peacefully, on September 21, 2016 in the loving arms of her children.

Dolly was born in Jersey City, NJ. It was there that she met her husband, Jim, in 1949 while selling tickets to a social dance. He offered to buy all the tickets if she would attend the dance with him. This was the start of a relationship that would last for 62 years until Jim passed away in 2011.

Dolly was a working Mom of five children and strong business woman, making her career as a legal secretary. She was appointed secretary of the local township Planning Board and was beloved and respected by many members of the local legal community.

To her family, she was the consummate mother, incredible cook and overly-fanatic housekeeper. She had the artful skill of making her children believe that they were always financially secure, even when they weren't. She worked overtime every week and socked the money away to make sure that every Christmas was a wonderland of presents and joy.

Dolly and Jim retired to Lake Monticello, VA in 1991, where they enjoyed a long and happy retirement surrounded by friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Loretta Rush, and her siblings Harold, Kathleen and Peter. She also was predeceased by her firstborn son, Glenn in 2007, which left a hole in her heart for the rest of her life.

Surviving Dolly are her daughter, Colleen and husband Kenneth Bresnahan, her son Gregg and his wife Deborah, her son Terrence and his husband Brian Henry, and her daughter Ronni and her husband, Mark Ackermann and daughter-in-law Susan Daly. Dolly was also the doting and proud grandmother to eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, Dolly and her family would like you to raise a glass in her honor. We miss you, Mom!
