Lucy R. Greene Obituary
Lucy R. Greene

Toms River - Lucy R. Greene fell asleep in Jesus Christ on Saturday, January 13, 2018. Beloved wife, mother, relative and friend, Lucy was born to Domenico and Priscilla (Pugliese) Apice in Newark, NJ on November 26, 1935. She was the youngest of eight siblings. Lucy married the love of her life, Robert L. Greene in 1959 and moved to Toms River in 1966 where they raised their two sons. She was a resident of Toms River for 52 years. Lucy worked for the Essex Record Company for 12 years as office manager prior to joining the Toms River-Ocean County Chamber of Commerce in 1972. In 1980, Lucy was awarded the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce Executive Scholarship to attend the University of Delaware. Lucy served as the Chamber of Commerce's administrative assistant until 1990 when she was promoted to President, a position she held until she retired in 2010. Lucy was involved in many civic activities including the Ocean County Natural Lands Trust Funds Advisory Committee, Friends of Navy Lakehurst, Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore, Jersey Council Boy Scouts of America, Toms River Police Foundation, NJ Chamber of Commerce, Dover Township Board of Ethics and many others. Lucy loved to serve her community and received many honors and awards from various community organizations. Lucy felt great satisfaction in her personal involvement, through the Chamber of Commerce, in saving Lakehurst Naval Air Station from closure, gaining voter approval for Toms River Township's name change, and laying the ground work for the construction of the downtown Toms River bypass bridge.

Lucy was a member of the Toms River Seventh Day Adventist Church since 1980. She has been tirelessly involved in helping her church to spread the gospel message. She formed a prison ministry in her church and was actively involved in bible studies in the county, state and federal prisons, and was elected the coordinator of prison ministries for the State of NJ. She enjoyed teaching Sabbath School class, organizing evangelism efforts, and involving the church in the community. Lucy walked in her faith in Jesus Christ and has impacted many lives. She accounted all her successes in life to the influence of her parents, talents God gave her and His working throughout her life, for which she was eternally grateful.

Lucy was predeceased by her husband, Robert L. Greene, her parents Domenico and Priscilla Apice, her sisters, Paula Petronella, Anne Calderone, Dolores Loboda, and her brother Angelo Apice. She is survived by her devoted family, Christopher and wife Karen (Slongwhite) of Longwood, Florida, Robert and wife Karen (Wurst) of Toms River and their two children, granddaughters Nicole and Jennifer, sisters Angela Scro, Antoinette Freda and Yolanda Candore, and many nephews and nieces: Charlotte and Richard, Priscilla and Susan, Michael, Joseph and Bobby, Rosemarie, Raymond and Ronald, Domenick, their spouses and many, many cousins.

Viewing will take place on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at the Carmona Bolen Home for Funerals at 412 Main Street, Toms River, 2:00 to 4:00pm and 7:00 to 9:00pm, with a service at 8:00pm. A viewing will take place at 9:00am Friday, January 19th at the funeral home. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Toms River at 10:00am with a short service.
