AGE: 42 • Stafford, VA

Major Charles J. Koch, U.S. Marine Corps, 42, of Stafford, Va., formerly of Toms River, passed away Friday, June 14, 2013, in Stafford, Va. Charles was born in Arlington, PA on Oct. 26, 1970 and was raised in Toms River, graduating from Toms River High School North in 1989. Charles proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps for 21 years. Charles attended the Defense Language Institute in 1993 and became a Spanish Linguist. He earned his degree in Accounting from NCSU in Raleigh, NC through the MECEP program in 1998. Charles was commissioned as a 2nd LT in 1998 and served one tour in Iraq from 2006 to 2007. He earned his master's degree in Manpower Systems at the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, CA in 2008 and was stationed at Marine Corps Base Quantico since April of 2009. Spending time with his family meant the world to Charles; he was loved by many and will be dearly missed.

Charles is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Jennifer (Muller) Koch; his cherished children, Sydney (10) and Grayson (5); his parents, Charles H. and Carol Ann Koch; sisters and brother, Carolann Wierdo and her husband Chris, Susan Anderson and her husband Andrew, and Jeffrey Koch and his wife Nancy; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Louis and Irene Muller; brother-in-law, Timothy Muller and his companion Danielle Williams; and many caring nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral mass in celebration of Charles at 11 a.m. Friday, June 21, 2013 at St. Joseph's Church, 685 Hooper Ave., Toms River. Military honors will follow at Ocean County Memorial Park in Toms River. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project at in Charles' memory.
