Belmar - Mara G. Filodoro, 67, of Neptune, formerly of Belmar, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on January 20 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune after a very long battle with cancer.

She was born in Bethesda, MD and lived in Belmar for 46 years before moving to Neptune 5 years ago.

Mara graduated from Burrell High School in Lower Burrell, PA and graduated from the Ann May School of Nursing in 1973. She also attended Monmouth University.

Mara retired in 2016 from nursing after working during her career as the first assistant operating room nurse for Dr. Anand Swaroop at Jersey Shore University Medical Center and as an operating room registered nurse at JSUMC for more than 40 years.

As a Registered Nurse Mara was deeply committed to providing quality, compassionate patient care.

In 2012 she was honored with the Florence Nightingale Award, which is an award for exceptional courage and devotion to the wounded, sick or disabled or to civilian victims of a conflict or disaster or exemplary services or a creative and pioneering spirit in the areas of public health or nursing.

Family, friends, and faith was very important to Mara, and she will been remembered always for her amazing courage and kindness.

Mara was a parishioner of Saint Elizabeth of Hungary RC Church in Avon.

Mara was predeceased by her husband Joseph F. Filodoro and her parents, Sgt. Maj. Nicholas Gledich, U.S.M.C and Marie A. Jones Gledich.

She is survived by her son Joseph G. Filodoro of Neptune, her sister Pamela Roesch of Pittsburgh PA, her brother Nicholas Gledich and his wife Nora of Colorado Springs ,Colorado, her sister Danica Seebeck and her husband Bill of Williston FLA, her sister -in -law Mary Ann Schiaviello and her husband Dominick of Milford, NJ and many nieces, nephews and grand nephews.

Visitation will be on Thursday January 25 from 5 to 8 PM at the Reilly Bonner Funeral Home , 801 D Street, Belmar NJ. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00 AM at Saint Elizabeth of Hungary RC Church, 424 Lincoln Ave. Avon NJ. Entombment to follow at Trinity Mausoleum, Atlantic View Cemetery, Manasquan. In lieu of flowers donations to Mary's Place by the Sea, 22 Main Ave. Ocean Grove NJ 07756, would be appreciated.
