Marilyn H. Schoof Obituary
Marilyn H Schoof

AGE: 86 • Brick

Marilyn H. Schoof, 86, of Brick, passed away on March 17, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Newark, NJ to Hazel and George "Leonard" Holderfield on April 15, 1930. She grew up in Verona, NJ and lived in Roseland, NJ before moving to Brick, NJ in 1960. After graduating from Verona High School in 1948, she married the love of her life, Dave. They lived in South Carolina for a short time while Dave was stationed at Parris Island Marine Corps Recruit Depot. Marilyn was a secretary for the Verona public school system and Assistant Manager at W.T. Grant Drapery and Linen in Brick. She retired in 1994 after 22 years working for the Brick Township MUA, where she made lifelong friends.

Marilyn enjoyed crafting; friends and family have been the recipients of her various handcrafted gifts. She loved to create cross-stitch baby announcements and wedding samplers, wedding candles from wedding invitations, and nesting bird Christmas tree ornaments. Marilyn also loved to share her holiday baked goods with neighbors and friends. Her incredible cheesecake was for family only.

As a young mother, Marilyn was supportive of her children's activities and was involved in the PTA. After retirement, Marilyn and Dave became The Traveling Duo. They set off in their travel trailer to see America, and their memories and stories of those travels gave her great joy. The Traveling Duo found friends and happiness along the way, especially in Hartford City, Indiana, in a small campground that became their extended summer home for many years.

In addition to her parents, Marilyn was predeceased by her dear sister June Behrens. Surviving are her beloved husband of 66 years Dave Schoof, her children Cindy Weyant, Jim Schoof (Renée), Debbi Schoof (Kelly Hart), her grandsons Dustin Schoof (Lynn), Jeremy Schoof (Erika), her great-granddaughter Avery Schoof, and her step-grandson Rick Weyant (Jennifer, and their daughter Nicole). Also surviving are her niece Judie Behrens Wilcox (Chip), nephews Tom Behrens (Liz), Chris Behrens (SaraJo), and many other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and of course her much loved grand pups Taylor and Shelby.

Family will receive visitors on Saturday March 25, 1-4 pm at Weatherhead-Young Funeral Home, 885 Mantoloking Road, Brick NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to KOA Care Camps, which provides opportunities for children with cancer to attend summer camp. Online donations at (Donations in Memoriam) or mail to KOA Care Camps Trust, 2981 Ford St. Ext., Ogdensburg, NY 13669.

A special thank you to Compassionate Care of Toms River, NJ, the staff at Ocean Medical Center (5th floor south), Shore Rehab and Shorrock Gardens Rehab, Brick NJ, and Concord Rehab, Lakewood NJ.
