Martha Bernice (Knutsen) Eiken

AGE: 87 • Matawan

Martha Bernice (Knutsen) Eiken, 87, of Matawan passed away peacefully on Dec 29, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in New Rochelle, NY to Norwegian immigrants who returned to their homeland when she was three. Raised on her family's dairy farm, she was top of her class in school, attended business school in Bergen where she worked as a bookkeeper. In 1952, she returned to the US residing in Bay Ridge Brooklyn and worked at Hansen's Travel Agency. In 1954, she met and married fellow Norwegian Alf Eiken, raising their family in Fords before moving to Matawan in 1973. Martha was an accomplished seamstress, talented "DIYer", excellent baker, devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Most proud of her Norwegian heritage, she was a member of Sons of Norway Noreg Lodge in Marlboro, serving on the Ladies Auxiliary for many years.

Martha is predeceased by her husband, Alf, her son Jan, her brother Karl and sister Gerd. She is survived by her sister Kirsten in Norway, her daughter Astrid and husband Gary Weber of Colts Neck and her son, Kenneth and wife Kimberly Eiken of Middletown and her two grandsons, Erik and John Weber. Her family will always remember her kind, generous and loving ways.She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She will live in our hearts forever.

Visitation will take place at Waitt Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 501 Highway 79, Morganville, NJ on Friday Jan. 6, 2016 from 4-8pm. Church Service will be held at St. Stephens Lutheran Church, 120 Pleasant Ave., Edison, NJ on Jan 7, 2016 at 2pm.
