Martin E. Wilk, Sr.

AGE: 88 • Bayonne and Seaside Park

Martin E. Wilk, Sr., 88, of Bayonne and Seaside Park, NJ, passed away Sunday, January 29, 2017 at the New Jersey Fireman's Home, Boonton, NJ.

A lifelong resident of Bayonne, Martin also lived in Seaside Park, NJ and was currently a resident of the New Jersey Fireman's Home.

Martin served as a member of the Bayonne Fire Department from 1958 until his retirement in 1992.

He proudly served his country as a member of the Marine Corps Company B and saw action as a 3.5 Bazooka gunner as part of the 1st Battalion 1st Regiment, 1st Division at the Chosin Reservoir in Korea.

He was an active member of the "Chosen Few", The Catholic War Veterans Post 1612, Korean Veterans, Marine Corps League, Disabled American Veterans, Am Vets and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 226.

He is also a member of the Mackenzie Post 165, where he served as Post Commander.

Martin was the Grand Marshall for the Bayonne Memorial Day Parade in 2014.

Martin was the beloved husband of the late Irene Wilk (nee Wrazen) and a devoted father to his daughter Marianne and son in law Chris Deczynski of Cranford, NJ and his son Martin E. Wilk, Jr. of Seaside Park.

He was most proud of his grandchildren Anthony and Rebecca Deczynski.

Martin is the dear brother in law to Helen Raskosky and brother to Walter Wilk and Stephanie Lubinski.

He was predeceased by his sisters Blanche Sawicki, Helen Washawanny, Evelyn Nemcik and brother Henry Wilk. Martin is the loving uncle and great uncle to many nieces and nephews.

A friend to everyone, he will be missed.

The family will receive friends Tuesday 2-4 & 6-9pm at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 809 Central Ave., Seaside Park, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Wednesday 11:00am at St. Catharine of Siena RC Church, Seaside Park. Burial to take place Thursday 11:00am at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the New Jersey Fireman's Home, 565 Lathrop Ave., Boonton, NJ 07005.
