AGE: 88 • Barnegat, NJ

Mary Catherine Kennedy (nee Felter), age 88, of Barnegat passed away on December 12, 2016 at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune City. Born in Camden, November 3, 1928 and raised in Barnegat, Mary Catherine attended Barnegat Elementary School and Barnegat High School. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania where she majored in Microbiology. She was a lifetime educator with a career spanning 45 years in the school districts of Little Egg Harbor, Stafford and retiring from the Barnegat School District in 2010.

Mary Catherine was a beloved teacher and enthusiastic community volunteer. Starting with WWII she watched for enemy planes from the tower at the old Barnegat Elementary School and rolled bandages for our troops fighting overseas. She was the Barnegat Township Historian and a member/volunteer for the Historical Society of Barnegat, New Jersey Lighthouse Society, Tuckerton Seaport, Ocean County Historical Society, Ocean County Parks and Recreation and Barnegat Pirate's Day. In recognition of her significant contributions to the community she was awarded the 2014 Pauline S. Miller Lifetime Achievement Award for Ocean County History.

Surviving is her daughter Renee Kennedy who resided with her in Barnegat, son Ronald Kennedy and his wife Ruth, daughters Mary Clarici and her husband Larry, Janet Kennedy, Susan Rozier and her husband Richard, grandchildren Kevin Kennedy, Nicolas Kennedy and Jazz Rozier and great-grandson Ethan Kennedy. She was predeceased by her daughter, Marjorie Joyner.

A Viewing will be held on Monday, December 19 at the Bugbee-Riggs Funeral Home, 335 South Main St., Barnegat from 2-4pm and 7-9pm with a funeral service at 8pm. A private family burial will be held on Tuesday.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a contribution be made to the Historical Society of Barnegat or the Tuckerton Seaport in Mary Catherine's memory.
