Mary Edna McKenzie, a lifetime resident of Red Bank, New Jersey died on September 13, 2017.

Mary was born on the 27th day of May in 1923 in Red Bank, New Jersey. There she attended the Red Bank school system and graduated from Red Bank High School. Following her graduation she attended O'Shea Business School and was offered a position at Fort Monmouth and worked as a Secretary there for many years. While in high school she met, James McKenzie, fondly known as Bud or Buddy. Married on August 7, 1943, James and Mary began their lives as a family in Red Bank. Shortly after they welcomed their daughter, Donna.

In the latter part of her life, Mary embarked on a new career. She returned to school and attended Brookdale Community College in which she prepared for her new career as a realtor. This is where she found her passion helping many families to discover their dream homes.

Mary and James lived their lives to the fullest and were a part of many social activities within the community such as the Jet Set and Les Femmes. They traveled extensively and hosted many gatherings at their home. Mary always remembered her civic duties by volunteering during the voting season and was a member of the AME Zion Methodist Church during her childhood as well as later years.

Family was an integral part of Mary's life. She never missed an opportunity to boast about her daughter and grandchildren's accomplishments.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband, James McKenzie; her mother, Virginia Morris; and her brother, Grandin Farrell.

She is survived by her daughter, Donna Read; her grandchildren, Tracy Rhett, Sean and Todd Read; her great grandchildren, Logan and Taylor Rhett; her uncle Ronald Davis; and many extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at AME Zion Methodist Church, 285 Shrewsbury Avenue in Red Bank, New Jersey on Wednesday, September 20, 2017. The viewing will be from 10AM- 12 noon. Funeral services will begin at 12:00 noon.
