Mrs. Schambach (nee Young) was born and raised in Raleigh, N.C. As a teenager during WW II, she served as a Civil Air Patrol pilot. After coming to New Jersey to attend the College of St. Elizabeth, she met John J. Schambach in 1946. After marrying in 1947, they raised their six children in Bernardsville, where Mary served as an elected Councilperson. They moved to Sea Girt in 1968, where Mary served as the Proprietor and Innkeeper of the Ridgewood House until her death. She was also a gardener, a member of the Holly Club of Sea Girt, an artist working in all genres, a skier, an environmental advocate, a world traveler, a sailor who minded the jibs, and a gourmet cook. But above all, Mary was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. "Our Mom will be missed by many, young and old, near and far."

Mrs. Schambach was predeceased by her parents, Patrick and Mary Agnes (nee Lynskey) Young, by her first husband, John J. Schambach, in 1995, and by her brother, Jack Young.
