Maryann (Mazaitis) Ierley

Wall Township - Maryann (Mazaitis) Ierley died from ALS on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at the age of 79. Born and raised in the Lithuanian neighborhood of Pittston PA, she graduated from Pittston Central Catholic HS before attending Pittston Hospital School of Nursing. After beginning her career as a Registered Nurse at Pittston Hospital, she came to Plainfield, NJ in 1958 where she worked for 7 years at Muhlenberg Hospital before leaving for Lenox Hill Hospital in NYC, where she worked for 8 years, mostly in medical-surgical and neonatal units.

After her marriage in 1973, Maryann moved to Wall Township, NJ and worked at Pt. Pleasant Hospital, as well as Jersey Shore Medical Center. Most of her latter nursing career she spent in private duty nursing for the Veterans Administration.

She channeled a gardening enthusiasm into a seasonal job at Jay's Garden Spot in Pt. Pleasant for many years. For nearly 25 years she sang alto in the Ocean County College Community Chorus.

Late in life Maryann was active as a volunteer for the Visiting Nurse Association of Central Jersey at their thrift shop in Manasquan, and served on their Board of Managers for 8 years.

She was a longtime member of the Church of St. Denis, Manasquan, and for a time served as a CCD teacher.

Maryann was predeceased by her brothers, Francis and John Mazaitis. Maryann is survived by her husband, Robert; her two daughters, Meredith Dobrosielski and her husband Devon of Towson, MD and Sarah Ierley and her husband Erik Couse of Rockville, MD; her four grandchildren, Jack, Lance, Elise, and Alexa; her brothers, Anthony and George Mazaitis, and her sister, Carol Caron.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, December 19th, 10:00am at the Church of St. Denis, Manasquan.
