Michael J. LaMarca Obituary
Michael J. LaMarca

Michael J. LaMarca of Shrewsbury New Jersey, formerly of Staten Island, New York passed away peacefully on June 21st at the Brandywine Assisted Living Facility in Shrewsbury, NJ. He was 94 years old. He is predeceased by his parents Ferdinand & Marianna, his brothers Carmelo and Phillip, and his loving wife of 62 years, Carmela. Michael was a man of incredible honesty and integrity, spending his entire life devoted to God, his family, and his country.

He served in the US Army from 1943 to 1945, fighting in North Africa and France. When he returned home, he worked for the City of New York's Department of Marine and Aviation for 32 years, supervising the Staten Island Ferry Terminal. He was served as president of Marine and Aviation Anchor Club Branch #119, and he proudly helped organize their annual boat ride for God's exceptional children.

Michael was a devoted parishioner of St. Teresa's Church on Staten Island and served as an usher for decades at St. Nicholas Chapel. It was an honor and duty that he took great pride in.

He was a man of few words, but he enjoyed gardening and music, especially the polka, and he taught himself to play the accordion and keyboard by ear.

He is survived by his children and their spouses, Catherine and Thomas Conway of Middletown, NJ, Fred and Arlene La Marca of Fair Haven, NJ and his 5 grandchildren, Kevin Conway and his spouse Maggie, Bryan Conway, Thomas Conway, Matthew LaMarca and Michael LaMarca. His entire family thanks the people at Brandywine and Grace Hospice who provided loving care to him over the past year.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Marine & Aviation Anchor Club Branch #119.

Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard on Monday, 10 AM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:45 AM at St. Nicholas Chapel, Labau Avenue, Staten Island, NY. Visitation is Saturday & Sunday 2-4 and 7-9pm. Interment will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery.
