AGE: 95 • Wall Township

Olive Marie McGuinness, 95 of Wall Township died Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at her home with her devoted son Patrick at her side.

Born August 3, 1921 in Passaic, New Jersey to Howard and Peggy (Reay) Shafer. Graduated from St. Mary's High School, Rutherford in 1939 and Berkeley Secretarial School in 1940 and was employed at U.S. Rubber Company (Uniroyal) Passaic in 1945.

Previously lived in Passaic, NJ, Colonia, NJ, Watertown, CT, and Port Clinton, OH. She resided for 19 years in Belmar, NJ, and has been a resident of Wall Township since 2000.

She was a communicant of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Roman Catholic Church, Avon.

Predeceased by father Howard (1980) and mother Peggy (1998) and brothers Robert (1981) and Ronald (2013). She was predeceased by an infant daughter (1946). She was the fiance of Seaman Thomas E. Ashton, EM3, USS Triton (1943).

She was the beloved wife of Bernard M. McGuinness (1994) for 49 years. She is survived by sons James, Cape St. Claire, MD; Robert, Wall Township; Patrick, Wall Township; and daughter Peggy-Anne Restiano, Sunset Beach, NC. Also survived by Michael and Eileen.

Special cousin Carole Szuhai Bruno and special grandson Joseph Imbriaco. Special nieces and nephews Robin, Bob, Kim, Christine, Joseph, Matthew, Lori and Geri. Also survived by 4 other grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Special thanks to Dr. Christopher S. Brown, his family and staff for 35 years of compassionate care, and Dr. Daniel Flynn and his team at Interventional Radiology, JSUMC. The family would also like to acknowledge the compassionate care of Embracing Hospice, Wall, especially Lora, Linda, Susan, and Father John Dobrosky as well as her caregiver Elizabeth.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered on Monday, January 30, 2017 at the Church of the Ascension, Bradley Beach with interment in St. Anne's Cemetery, Wall.
