Ona (Lanauskas) Lanys Obituary
Ona Lanys (Lanauskas)

AGE: 99 • Ormond Beach, FL

Ona Lanys (Lanauskas) 99, of Ormond Beach, FL., passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren on Nov. 3rd. Ona was born in Lithuania and after spending over 4 years in the DP (Displaced Persons) Camp in Germany, Ona along with her husband Petras and two daughters, Vida and Birute arrived at Ellis Island on July 4, 1949. They settled in Elizabeth, NJ where Ona was an active member of St. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church and also the Lithuanian Community. After arriving in America, Ona was employed by the American Can Co. in Hillside, NJ where she worked for 30 years. In 1960 Ona & her husband Petras purchased a hotel in Asbury Park, NJ. The well-known landmark, Lanys' Guest House became a popular vacation destination for Lithuanians on the East Coast. Lanys' Guest House was sold and in 1991 Ona joined Petras to enjoy retirement to Ormond Beach.

Ona never actually understood what it meant to be retired, as she remained active in the Daytona Beach area Lithuanian Community and managing her investments. During her "retirement" she enjoyed aerobics, swimming, entertaining, crocheting, preparing Lithuanian dishes and discussing the stock market. Ona's number one goal in life was to provide for her family. Whether it was providing the financial means for relatives in Lithuania or America to purchase cars, houses, pay for college or begin businesses, Ona's focus was to do whatever it took to set her family up for success for many generations.

Ona is pre-deceased by her husband Petras. She is grieved by her daughters, Vida Anton of Howell, NJ and Birute Wicart of Kona, Hawaii, grandson Edward Anton and his family, wife Dr. Debra Anton and their children Zachary, Chase, Caleb and Lindsay of Virginia Beach, VA and grandson Michael Anton and his family, wife Jennifer Anton and their daughters Ashlyn and Isabella of Ormond Beach, FL. A large extended family in Lithuania also grieves her passing.

A memorial service will be held on Dec. 3rd in Ormond Beach, FL. Ona's remains will be taken to Lithuania for burial. A memorial mass will also be held on Sunday Dec. 11th at St. Peter and Paul's Roman Catholic Church in Elizabeth, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to: St. Peter and Paul's Roman Catholic Church, Elizabeth, NJ 07206.
