Paul A. Shaughnessy

AGE: 90 • Point Pleasant

Paul A. Shaughnessy, 90, a lifelong resident of Point Pleasant, left this earth on January 10, 2017, to join his wife of over 60 years, Lillian.

Born in 1926 to James and Catherine, he was one of 11 siblings. Paul is predeceased by his wife, Lillian, brothers, James and Jack, and sisters, Mary Rempfer, Catherine Wilson, Margaret Pinera, Nancy Bradshaw, Joan Herman, and Alice Bembridge.

He is survived by his brothers, Francis of Point Pleasant, and Michael of Dade City, Florida. He is also survived by daughters, Linda Vacchiano of Farmingdale, Katie LaMonaca and her husband, Peter of Williamstown, and his son, Shawn Shaughnessy and his wife, Quiavonna of Point Pleasant. Paul will be dearly missed by his wonderful grandchildren, Danielle Sanchez and her husband, Manny, Jessie Vacchiano and her wife, Christina, Paul Vacchiano, Peter LaMonaca, Jr., and Daniel LaMonaca, as well as great-grandsons, Mason, and his soon-to-be little brother, and many nieces and nephews.

Paul was a past member of the St. Peter's Holy Name Society and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Paul joined the Navy at age 17 and was honorably discharged at the conclusion of WWII. Upon returning to Point Pleasant, he worked aboard The Chappie and The Angler. Soon thereafter, he opened his own carpentry business and later became a union carpenter with the Monmouth County Carpenter's Union.

He met his wife, Lillian, while she was working at the Candy Kitchen in downtown Point Pleasant with his sister, Joan. Paul and Lillian celebrated 60 years of marriage in 2011, and set the greatest example of unconditional love that a family could ever imagine.

They built two houses themselves, raised a family, and spent every day caring for each other.

Viewing will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, January 15, at Pable Evertz Funeral Home, 901 Beaver Dam Road, Point Pleasant. A funeral Mass will take place at 10 a.m. Monday, January 16, at Saint Peter's Church in Point Pleasant Beach, followed by entombment at Saint Catharine Cemetery Mausoleum, Sea Girt.
