Paul David Johnson

AGE: 91 • Toms River

Paul David Johnson, 91, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on October 7, 2017. Born in South Charleston, WV, to the late David and Virgie Johnson, he moved to Manville, NJ, when he was seven. He was predeceased by two brothers: William and Richard Johnson, and two sisters: Helen Pieros and Stella Sakowski.

Mr. Johnson was a veteran of World War II, having served in the US Navy from 1944 to 1946. He held the rank of Gunner's Mate Third Class. In 1945 he married Mary K. Johnson (nee Kolczycki). After his discharge, they moved to Somerville, NJ, and Manville, NJ, prior to moving to Whitehouse, NJ, where they built a house and a barn and raised farm animals. Mr. Johnson spent 28 years at Union Carbide (Bakelite) in Bound Brook, NJ, and held various positions including Foreman and Emergency Coordinator. Mr. Johnson later moved to Middlesex, NJ, and started his first organic garden. As he was getting ready to retire, he moved to Toms River, NJ, where he continued gardening and building wooden furniture. During this time, he reunited with his shipmates from the USS Feland and attended annual reunions.

Mr. Johnson's other interests included collecting antiques, playing the piano, and spending time with his family, friends and members of several Bible Chapels. He faithfully read his Bible, and fervently prayed early each morning. Additionally, he served as President of Pine Bush Bible Camp in Pine Bush, NY, and actively served at Cedarcroft Bible Chapel (formerly Grove Street Chapel) in South Plainfield, NJ, and Bethany Bible Chapel in Toms River, NJ.

Surviving are his loving wife, Mary K. Johnson, of 72 years, and two daughters: Sandra L. Fisher and her husband David; Karen S. Le Sueur and her husband David. He will be deeply missed by his three grandchildren: Brian P. Fisher; Wendy A. Morrison and her husband John; Dawn E. Ferro and her husband Sal; and greatly missed by his three great granddaughters: Abigail, Hannah and Rachel, who he adored.

Mr. Johnson was dearly loved by his family and friends, and he will be remembered for his love and generosity to all and for his strong desire to help anyone in need.

Visitation will be held on October 17, 2017 from 4-7PM at Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue, Fanwood. Funeral Services will take place on October 18, 2017 in the Funeral Home with a brief viewing at 10AM and the service at 11AM.
