Paula Gutschmit Obituary
Paula Gutschmit

AGE: 85 • Spring Lake

GUTSCHMIT—Paula, née Lukaszyk, of Spring Lake, New Jersey, passed away on Tuesday, November 29, at home. She was 85 years old. Her warmth, wisdom, and caring spirit touched all who knew her. Born in Peckville, PA, she grew up in Jersey City, NJ, graduating from St. Aloysius. She worked as a flight attendant with TWA until her marriage in 1957 to Marvin Gutschmit. They lived in Elmsford, NY and New York City before moving to Spring Lake, where she opened Tinkerbell's, a children's gift and book store. She delighted in kindling a love of reading in others, and was herself a lifelong learner, fascinated by history and biography. She loved ballet, opera, and classical music, and enjoyed traveling near and abroad. Her greatest source of joy was her family. She will be deeply mourned by her daughters Lisa Martin of Short Hills, NJ and Lauren Goodsmith of Baltimore, MD; her son David and his wife Mimi of New York City; her beloved grandchildren Brianna and Nathaniel Martin and Rachel and Nicholas Gutschmit; her brother William Lukaszyk and his wife Jane of Morristown, NJ and their sons Jeffrey and Greg; and by her nieces Laurie and Kerri Lukaszyk and their mother Jay, of Manasquan, NJ. She was predeceased by her husband Marvin and by her brother George. Contributions in her name may be made to the U.S. Fund for UNICEF.
