AGE: 92 • Keyport

Percy L. Washington, 92, of Keyport, passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2015, at Bayshore Nursing and Rehab in Holmdel. Percy was born on June 1, 1922, in Earlysville, Virginia to the late Obie and Grace Washington before moving to the Keyport area. Percy was a member of Second Baptist Church in Keyport, Bayshore Hospital Trustee, and Keyport Kiwanis where he held the Legion of Honor for 50 years. He owned Washington Auto Sales in Keyport, from 1944 to 1994 where he became the first African-American to have a Nissan franchise.

Surviving is his loving wife of 70 years, Gwendolyn M. Washington; his daughter, Diane M. Williams; his grandchildren, Gwen Williams and Richard Williams (Melody); his two great-grandchildren, Corrin Williams and Miles Williams; his two brothers, George Washington and Frank Washington; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Percy will be dearly missed by his loved ones.

In addition to his parents, Percy is predeceased by his three sisters, Clara Harris, Minnie Schanck, and Ethel Scott; and his brother, William Washington.

A viewing will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, May 11, with the funeral service beginning at 11 a.m. at Second Baptist Church, 205 Atlantic St., Keyport.
