Philip E. Valese, Sr.

AGE: 89 • Middletown

Philip E. Valese, Sr., 89, of Middletown, NJ, died on July 24, 2017 at his home with his family. He was born in East Orange, NJ to the late Michael and Marion Clapper Valese. Upon graduating high school, Philip enlisted and served in the US Navy. After his tour of duty, Philip married his beloved wife, Lucille, and they started their family together. Philip worked as a purchasing agent for The Austin Company at their Roselle Park and Plainfield, NJ locations.

Philip was a life member of the Old Village Fire Company in Middletown, NJ, where he held various positions including President for many years. He was also an active member of the Middletown Firemen's Department and the Monmouth County Firemen's Relief Association where he held the position of President for both organizations for many years. Phil was an active member of the Executive Committee for the Firemen's Retirement Home in Boonton, NJ. He loved being at the firehouse and wouldn't miss a Department Meeting Dinner. Phil was an avid golfer and bowler and a sports enthusiast and he especially enjoyed watching the Giants and the Yankees. Philip was an extremely generous and caring man and would go above and beyond to help anyone in need.

Surviving are his four sons and daughters-in-law, Philip E. and Daphne Valese, Jr. of Lawrenceville, NJ, Richard and Nancy Valese of Union Beach, NJ, Stephen and Barbara Valese of Middletown, NJ, and Michael and Connie Valese of Manahawkin, NJ; his 4 grandchildren, Courtney, Shannon and her husband Paul, Lauren, and Ryan and his wife Jennifer, his 2 great-grandchildren, Lucas and Anthony; his sister, Joyce Valese; and many cousins, nephews and a niece.

Philip was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lucille Valese in 2016.

Visitation will be held Friday, July 28, 2017 from 2-4:30 pm and 6-9 pm at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, 115 Tindall Road, Middletown. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, July 29 at 8:00 am at the funeral home. A Funeral Liturgy will be offered Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 9:15 am at St. Mary's Chapel, 26 Leonardville Rd., Middletown. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
