Allenwood - Rachel E. "Betsy" Thompson, 89, of Allenwood passed away at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune on Wednesday January 31, 2108. Betsy was a lifelong resident of Wall Township and a graduate of Manasquan High School. Betsy had worked for HL Green in Asbury Park for several years before working for the Wall Township Board of Ed as an aide in the cafeteria at Wall Intermediate School. Betsy was also well known for her baking of cookies that were sold at Smith's Farm Market, Wall. She was a lifelong member of Calvary Baptist Church, of which her family was one of the founding families of the church. Betsy was very active in the church especially with the children's ministry. She was a member of the Rainbow Girls and Order of the Eastern Star. Betsy was an avid reader; she enjoyed knitting, baking and gardening.

Betsy was predeceased by her son David Thompson in 2014. She is survived by her husband of 63 years John Thompson of Allenwood. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Lilyan and Bill Moore of Rio Rancho, NM, a sister Gertrude Winans of Allenwood and two daughters-in-law Roberta Thompson of Indiana and Virginia MacGeorge of Arizona. Betsy is also survived by six grandchildren Michael, Brandy, Christopher, Patrick, Bobby and Ryan and 5 great grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation Wednesday February 7, 2018 from 10 am to 12 noon at the Calvary Baptist Church 600 13th Avenue Belmar, NJ 07719. The funeral service will begin at 12 noon. Interment will follow at Glendola Cemetery, Wall. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church, Belmar.
